National Missing Persons Week 2021

In 2021, The Missed Foundation, formerly MPAN, launched a campaign urging the Federal Government to formally recognise National Missing Persons Week (NMPW). This initiative aimed to raise awareness about the challenges faced by missing Australians and their families, including a parliamentary e-petition for official acknowledgment of NMPW. Founder Loren O’Keeffe highlighted that over 100 Australians are reported missing daily, with up to 5% becoming long-term missing. The campaign sought to generate community support and promote preventive measures during this critical awareness week. Although it attracted national media coverage and garnered 2,288 signatures, the Federal Government ultimately declined to officially recognise the Week.
