Power To Persuade, 17 February 2026
Recently, in Power to Persuade, an article by Alexa Ridgway highlighted the need for formalised, coordinated and government-funded support for the family and friends of missing migrants and non-citizens. The article reflects on the case of missing Belgian tourist Celine Cremer, whose friends travelled from Belgium to assist with search efforts.
The article also notes there is scope to strengthen the capacity of organisations already providing support to families and friends of missing migrants and non-citizens, including through tracing assistance and emotional support, but which are not currently funded by government to do so. For example, The Missed Foundation provides support for families of missing persons, including missing migrants and non-citizens, yet relies on donations and community fundraising rather than government funding.
