ABC, 18 October 2024
Loren O’Keeffe, founder of The Missed Foundation, spoke to the ABC about the case of Julie Garciacelay, who disappeared in 1975. As Julie’s family awaits a breakthrough, parallels have been drawn between her case and the recent developments in the Easey Street murders. The coroner’s 2018 determination of homicide for Julie has reignited hope for answers, especially for her mother, Ruth Garciacelay, who has lived with the pain of not knowing.
Ruth, now 91, continues to seek closure, hoping for information that could lead to the recovery of Julie’s remains. In honour of the 50th anniversary of Julie’s disappearance, a memorial will take place, featuring a plaque and a tree planted in her memory. As Loren stated, this gathering signifies that, despite the passage of time, the community remains committed to remembering Julie and supporting her family through their enduring grief.
