Marie Claire, 12 August 2025
Loren O’Keeffe spoke with Marie Claire about the disappearance of her younger brother, Dan, in 2011. At 24, Dan was adventurous, compassionate, and had his whole life ahead of him. His sudden disappearance left Loren and her family facing the painful uncertainty of ambiguous loss, compounded by police systems unprepared to respond to non-suspicious cases.
In response, Loren founded The Missed Foundation, providing practical and emotional support to families affected by long-term disappearances. The foundation advocates for missing persons to be seen as a community and public health issue, not just a policing matter, and works to humanise those who go missing while reducing the isolation families experience.
Through awareness campaigns, guidance, and advocacy, The Missed Foundation connects families with resources and support, honours missing loved ones, and fosters resilience. Loren’s work transforms personal tragedy into a purpose-driven mission, helping families navigate uncertainty, grief, and the ongoing challenge of not knowing.
